It is beginning to look like Christmas and feels like gumbo weather! If you are looking to get into the Christmas spirit I compiled a list of things that you may want to do. Now, I did NOT put down all the festivities they have, I mean there are just too many! I did however post my picks of Christmas fun!

Dec. 4-Lafayette- Festival of Light in the Oil Center-from 5 to 10pm

Snow in Louisiana…again?

I was watching the weather this morning and the word snow was mentioned. In case you don’t live around here about this time last year it snowed and managed to accumulate on the ground. I don’t think that had happened since the 80s. Anyway, if you are in the Texas/Louisiana/Arkansas area Friday night it looks like we will see a snow/sleet mix. In the Acadiana area it doesn’t look like it will stay under 32 degrees so we may not see the snow accumulate like we saw last year, but its wishful thinking!

Thanksgiving drive

Happy Thanksgiving! Today I traveled to Youngsville from Jennings, Louisiana. The traffic was not that bad except for the occasional slowdown on I-10. The traffic through Lafayette wasn’t all that bad either on the way into Youngsville this morning. It was kind of eerie driving through Lafayette and pretty much everything was closed this morning.

The drive home was a little better. Green lights all the way down Ambassador Caffery to I-10 and more stores and restaurants were open. I could barely keep my eyes open after that lunch we had. I think we had counted seventy people or so. That’s a lot of people and a lot of food!

We could not have been blessed with better weather and better food! I hope all of you had a Thanksgiving full of as many blessings as mine!

Thanksgiving

I know its been a while but things have been a little crazy with school and work over the last couple of weeks. On that note, I am going to talk about Thanksgiving. It only seems fitting since we will celebrate it this week.

Pretty much every year my family and I celebrate Thanksgiving at my cousins’ house in Youngsville, LA. We have family from Houston, New Orleans, and about a fifty square mile radius around the Youngsville area that come together for the feast. I think that this time of year pretty much revolves around food and it would not be a Thanksgiving dinner without turkey. We fry ours. I think the rest of the country has finally caught on to this phenomenon. Along with our fried turkey we have ham, rice dressing, salad, potato dishes of all types, and deserts by the dozens!

If you’re wondering about that fried turkey recipes and directions on what to do and more importantly what NOT to do are found through a simple search online. More traditional southern dishes like rice dressing and pecan pie are also easy to get ahold of.

So, no matter where you travel near or far I hope your feast is as good as ours. Have a safe and very happy Thanksgiving!

Festivals in Louisiana

One of Louisiana’s greatest assets are our festivals. We celebrate everything, food, music, animals, industry, food…wait I said that. haha I thought that I would post some of the local festivals and information so that if your in the area you could join in on the fun.

I wanted to say that the Angola Prison Rodeo and Arts and Crafts Festival is over but I just wanted to put it out there. Yes, it’s at a prison. It is also one of the most popular events in South Louisiana. Busloads of people go and tickets sell out in advance. This year is was October 4, 11, 18, and 25. Louisiana’s crazy weather!

Yesterday’s weather was so bad! We had tornados to the west of us and flooding at school! My grandmother called (she lives in Jennings,LA) to give me an update on power outages and possible tornados, which totaled at least four.

Today is so cold…but something warmed me up. We just got notified at work that none other than Matthew MacConaughey was spotted at Starbucks in Lafayette,LA!

Hot Spring, Arkansas

The state line

In August my boyfriend and I went to Hot Springs, Arkansas. I have to say I’ve been a lot of places but this is one unique town.

We drove. We drove the six hour trip over two days. If you want to get to know someone stay in a car for two days! The drive was great especially when we got into Arkansas and got off the main road on to the scenic 7 byway. We enjoyed it so much we took the same way on the way back.

We stayed at Panther Valley Ranch just outside of Hot Springs. There are several cabins to choose from and while your there you can go horseback riding. There is also a steak dinner! Of course we went horseback riding and my boyfriend got the horse that was scared of water and wouldn’t you know there was a creek on the ride. Let’s just say he felt like a cowboy by the time the ride was over! haha

Downtown Hot Springs is something to see and experience. There are cute shops and restaurants everywhere you look. You can’t miss the bathhouses. I even took a dip in one of the baths. It was very relaxing.

Some other things you shouldn’t miss:

Hot Springs Tower

Lake Catherine State Park- hike the Fall Branch Trail- a tip go left first not right you get the falls a lot faster

Fisherman’s Warf Restaurant on Lake Hamilton- eat on the deck if its a nice day

Poseidon’s restaurant -some of the best italian I’ve ever had

Bubbalu’s -diner-like atmosphere, great for a quick lunch while downtown

Hi! My name is Megan and I love to travel. I will be blogging about where I’ve been and where I want to go.

I am from South Louisiana where I am currently in school. I love Louisiana. A two hour drive can make you feel like your in a whole different place. We have it all from plantation homes to festivals to resturaunts galore. Of course I won’t just be talking about my travels in Louisiana I will talk about the other trips I have taken around this great country.
